[Answered] I can't change the classic start menu in XP
Hi,
I changed my visual effects to "adjust for best performance" (In control panel > system > advanced tab > performance > visual effects). and it changed my start menu to the classic windows start menu. Now when I wanted to change it back to windows XP menu
"adjust for best appearance"
It still starts in the classic start menu. I even went to the taskbar and clicked "start menu" instead of" classic start menu".
(right click taskbar > properties > start menu tab I click start menu) but it still starts in the classic start menu.
How can I get the fancy XP start menu back?
Thanks
Thanks for the help, When I follow your instrucions the drop down menu says "Windows XP (modified)" and "windows XP Classic" not " Windows Xp". I obviosley don't want classic but when I click "Windows XP (midified)". I sill get the same screen as classic.????
How do I unmodify it?
If you have a Windows XP CD, you could try running the System File Checker Utility (sfc.exe). Go to start the Run and type in the open box "sfc scannow" (without quotes) and press enter. This will go through replacing any damaged or missing system files.
Ok, I will try that, but couldn't I use sfc.exe without the XP cd. I would just point to the
%systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder.
Is this correct? Ohterwise I have to wait untill tonight to get my XP CD.
