Newbie here... and I'd like help please.

My C-Drive was erased. So, I'm trying to reinstall an operating system (from ME to XP). I've downloaded the start-up disks for WINDOWS XP, but I'm having a few problems.

Disk 1 runs ok (I guess). I am subsequently prompted to enter disk 2 and press the enter key, but the enter key/keyboard w/not work. I've verified it's plugged in and it works when I'm using other programs... any suggestions?

Are you using a wireless keyboard? Wireless keyboards/mice will sometimes not work prior to Windows loading.

If you are using a wired keyboard, did you try unplugging/replugging it in? Try switching the keyboard to the other PS2 port?

Are you using a DELL computer? If you use CTRL + ALT + DELETE to reboot the computer, a lot of models will have a keyboard failure during the next boot up. Try holding the power button down to turn it off then turn it back on.

That is about all I can think of. The only other thing I would suspect is that your keyboard is working just fine, but your second disk is bad and keeps asking for it. But it would at least react when you hit enter, then come up with an error.

Hi welcome to the forum Quick question why are you using a boot disk when both those OS cd are bootable? Will the keyboard work to get you into the bios? if it will set the PC to boot from the CD/DVD drive and try installing it that way. Instructions below

That's why I asked, madmatt. I was wondering if he meant downloaded OS disks.

Now that you mention it it duz sound a bit weird . I thought he might mean downloaded a boot disk from bootdisk.com or somthing like that. We will wait and see I guess
