Default [Resolved] Update Shield WON'T go away!

Hi ya all. I have another problem. I got a notification that updates were ready from Microsoft. I downloaded. BUT the shield WON'T go away and says the same 3 updates are ready.

KB917283
KB922770
KB928365

Any help deeply appreciated.

Oh, I got one of those memory sticks to put scanners etc on. I downloaded Diskeeper but it went on it AND my PC. Also, What scanners can I put on there to help clean out all the pc's in the house? Do I post the HJT log here?

Hi Starwalker,
If you click on the update shield does it want to take you through the process of proceeding with the updates,if so follow that path, you could try going to windows update and manually go through the process of updates.

Microsoft Update

Any HJT logs you will need to post in Spyware/Addware sub forums.

Ok, I'm in REAL trouble! I thought. What the hay. I'll reboot. Now EVERYTHING is gone and I got a message that Windows can not recognize my personal settings. Can I get them back. I can't find system restore either.

My pictures are gone. It's a clean slate. What do I do to try and recover my settings and items?

Hi Starwalker...this is rather strange...I've seen this before on a domain, but not on a personal computer.

Your files should still be there - just in a different profile.

Goto Start -> My Computer -> Local Disk (C) -> Documents and Settings
Does there appear to be any duplicate usernames in here? Possibly Administrator and Administrator.000 or .computername something silimar

It has folders. One says All Users, Temp and me. But it won't go onto MY settings. I get a message before windows starts that says

Windows can not restore locally stored profile. .... Thats what I got wrote down before the timer went Kapoot and started windows. It restarts fresh and new with each reboot.

I hope we can fix this. I think I'm gonna throw up. Great! I messed this thing up again.

Everything is there that should be in the Lynne Folder.
