Default [Resolved] Select between 2 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition during start-up

I have 2 hard disks on my PC and had just formatted both hard disks. My previous xp o.s was installed on my c drive. However, during re-installing of xp, i accidentally installed xp o.s on my d drive. Ever since, whenever i start my pc, an option appears asking me to select which o.s i want to start. Both o.s are the same i.e. Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition.

I had re-formatted my d drive after that and the drive is empty now. My only o.s is in my c drive. But I still get the option asking me to select which o.s i want to start. When I tried selecting the second o.s, an error message appears saying that there is a missing file and the o.s is unable to start. No problem occurred with the first o.s

I do not want to have the option to choose. Is there any way I can make the option disappear? Thanks for reading and replying.

Regards.

Yep shibly,

There is a file on the root of your c: called boot.ini

Be very careful when editing this file (post the contents of this file here if you like).

You basically need to leave this file with a single entry under [operating systems]

An example (yours may vary slightly):

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

It will be in c:\ - My Computer, Local Disk (c), boot.ini

The file is hidden, so you may need to go to Tools, Folder Options, View tab, and untick "Hide protected operating system files".

An alternative way to access it is through My Computer, Control Panel, System, Advanced tab, under "Startup and Recovery" click Settings. Finally, click the Edit button.
