Default [Pending] Random reboots

Hi. I've been having this problem for awhile now, and I had no idea what was causing it so I just ignored it for as long as I can remember. My pc seems to be restarting randomly more frequently lately..and I'm not sure if it's software or hardware related..but every time I boot up I get this:

The system has recovered from a serious error.

Error signature
BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : BF837895 BCP3 : A7FBAC3C
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

The following files will be included in this error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERabc0.dir00\M ini072807-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERabc0.dir00\s ysdata.xml

Also every time I boot up, after Windows has been up for a few seconds the screen will go black for a second or two and then back to normal. What is this? Sorry, but I'm terrible with the technical-related stuff when it comes to computers. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello CylonGod, welcome to PCHF.

Can you attach the file C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERabc0.dir00\M ini072807-02.dmp

As well as a couple more of these dump files if possible.

Your screen going black for a few seconds (at the desktop)? There are a number of things that can cause this and could be perfectly normal if you have a screen utility installed, but I have also seen faulty graphics cards do this at random. Do you know what graphics card you have installed in your PC?

It seems the dmp files are barely over the limit, so I uploaded them elsewhere. And my video card is a Radeon 9600. Thanks for the response.

Quick question, are you running Windows XP Home or Pro?

Also, if you have a couple more dump files to post would be great. At the moment, the two above appear to be unrelated. Either I can't find the link between the two, or there is more than one problem on your PC.

Hi Cylon,

You definately have multiple problems there.

The first relates to the following Microsoft Article: STOP 0x1E in Win32k.sys Error May Occur in Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional
You will need to follow the link to support.microsoft, contact them directly to obtain a hotfix.

The second appears to be faulty RAM. The best method of testing for faulty memory is Memtest.

- If you have a floppy drive and a spare floppy disk, please download: http://www.memtest86.com/memt32.zip

- If not, please download, unzip and use nero to burn this image: http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.2.iso.zip

Ok, so I ran the memtest for many hours and about 12 passes, no errors. Weird.. I was sure I'd have some memory problems.

And where do I install this hotfix?
