Hey dude,

Yep, overheating can definately cause BSOD's. The most popular BSOD caused by overheating is the 9C - MACHINE_CHECK_EXECPTION.

okay,
the reason i was asking is because i opened up my case to check that all my drives were connected correctly, since i was having multiple bsods. anyways i noticed that the heatsink on one of the chips on the mobo was disconnected, it was almost falling off.

before i opened my case, i had a wierd bsod, it showed up and rebooted my pc instantly, despite the fact that i have auto restart turned off. this lead me to beleive that it might be due to overheating, as i had quite a lot of processes running around, like a few ie windows, mozilla windows, icq windows etc etc.

thx anyways

It doesn't take much to cause a BSOD. If you haven't received a BSOD since putting that fan back in place... great. If your not so sure, have a look at BSOD's on my signature. Follow the instructions there on how to post a dump/log file. Post a couple if possible. I will analyse and confirm overheating if you like.

okay, i just put it on so if i have any ill post them.

also i checked at the event log and i noticed that before every BSOD i have a few errors
all of them like this :

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D. (event 11)

and one
A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort1. (event 5)

which is why i checked that the cables were inserted correctly.

i also thought that this might be because the PSU isn't sending out enough voltage or whatever since i installed two fans a few weeks ago.

All of these are possible causes of BSOD's.

Have a look at: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator v2.5 (Click Go Lite), to rule out power.

Otherwise, feel free to post your BSOD whenever you can.
