Default [Pending] MS Desktop Search - snooze mode?

Running XP-SP2 and downloaded/installed MS Desktop Search a week ago to replace the old Lookout produc I used previouslyt. Runs OK but keeps the harddrive busy constantly. The product has a snooze button, and when I click on it I would expect the product to stop its activity, but it doesn't. The harddrive continues to be busy and the 2 Desktop Search indexing totals continue to change by the second. Anyone know the secret of how to pause this product?
If I posted to the wrong place plz let me know - I'm a newbie to this.
Charlie

Hya and welcome to PCHF,

A quick and easy Googling led me to this:

Will Desktop Search affect my computer's performance? (back to top)

The MSN Search Deskbar uses some of your computer's processing power to build and maintain the desktop index, so you might see some change in your computer’s response time after you install MSN Search Toolbar. In general, this change quickly passes, and you won’t notice it. If your computer is busy, the Toolbar pauses the indexing process until more computer resources are available. You can also temporarily stop indexing.
If you are using a laptop computer, indexing will not take place while the computer is running on battery power.
How long does it take for Desktop Search to finish indexing my computer? How soon can I start searching? (back to top)

The time required for Desktop Search to create the index depends on how much data you have on your computer. If you have many files on your computer, indexing could take a few hours. You can start searching as soon as you install MSN Search Toolbar, but you may not be able to find or search some files until the first index is complete.
After the index is complete, Desktop Search updates it whenever an item is added or removed.
Note: E-mail messages will be indexed only when Outlook or Outlook Express is running
Should answer your question

Default Did not answer my question...

Thanks for your reply, but the Googles you found did not address my question.
My question was on how to really pause the Desktop Search application from indexing. I did click on the application's SNOOZE button, at which time the application looked like I could wake it up when I wanted, or that it would stay SNOOZEd for 15 minutes. However - the harddrive kept on chugging AND the application's index counts (showing on the application's panel) continued to change constantly. In other words, the indexer kept on indexing even though I set it to SNOOZE. Anyone have a solution?

Well, like the gooling revealed, it'll stop once it's finished indexing. Now I ask you, do you have anything else (such as torrents/downloads) going that would require the indexer to keep updating itself?

Default But I want it to PAUSE as advertised

You asked if I have downloads running. I don't. Well, if I let the PC idle all night when I'm not using it, in the morning the indexing is idle - shows about 44,000 items indexed, 0 left to scan. I certainly understand that indexing would be active as I use the PC - updating spreadsheets and WORD documents, sending/receiving emails via Outlook, browsing the web, etc. But again my problem is that when I click the Windows Desktop Search PAUSE button, and then the button changes to a WAKEUP button, the product continues to busy the harddrive and the index counts continue to change. In other words, the application says that it is paused - but it is not paused in fact. Is there a way to get someone at MS that knows about this product to address the question? Lost cause?
