Default [Pending] unable to detect my xp!

The actual thing is i have encountered with the error "system32/hal.dll"file missing or corrupt plzz reinstall a copy of tat file..

but i am trying to fix tat problem with the help of this
Missing Hal.dll - Missing Or Corrupt Hal.dll Error Message in Windows XP - Fix Hal.dll

but as soon as i go to the recovery console my comp is unable to detect the os in D drive..even in case i install a new xp on my c drive and go to the recovery console ,it still shows only one xp installed on my c drive( but there is a previuosly installed xp on d drive)..i just want to recover all my files before formatting the d drive..

so my question is,is there a way for it detetct my old xp on d drive,or is there a way to recover all my files in d drive( i tried a couple of recovery files softwares but most of them were just trial versions)and also can i recover all my files even after formatting..?

plzz let me know,thanks

Try booting into Safe Mode (F8), then copy off your personal files.
Normally, once a drive is formatted all data is lost.

Good Luck...

Then, how did you "install a new xp on my c drive", if you can't boot into Safe Mode?
