Question [Answered] Add, remove windows components

Other day I added the fax service just to have a look. I clicked the fax service, inserted the CD, reboot. Then my IE, OE, Paint, calcu. Were gone.
Maybe other things.
Am I getting old and senile? Don't answer that.
What am I missing about how to use this "feature?"
Am now gun shy about it.

2- I now have a folder at top of control panel, settings. Nothing in it. Think it might have something to do with fax? I never completed the fax wizard.
Thanks bb

Hi busterb

When you said this
Then my IE, OE, Paint, calcu. Were gone.
- did you mean the icons from the desktop OR you can no longer see/use the actual programs?

It sounds to me like the install of the faxservice has overwritten/deleted the .exefiles in System32folder. Please follow the Repair XP-link in my signature IF the actual programs are deleted and not just the shortcuts...
