Question [Answered] Completely random shutdowns - wtf?

I hope you guys can help me with this, as nobody has any idea how to help me.

I have a Gateway 7405GX laptop, that I've had for some years. My computer has this nasty habit of shutting down at completely random times, and has been doing this for some months. Out of nowhere, the fan in the laptop will suddenly start spinning REALLY fast, and then two seconds later the computer just shuts off by itself. This USUALLY happens when I'm using a full-screen program like a game (even games that take up virtually no CPU) or exporting media like when I create videos or make music.

Does anybody have ANY idea why this is happening?

Hi welcome to the forum Sounds like the CPU maybe over heating there is a cover on most laptops you can remove and clean out all the dust I'd try that first.

It's funny you say that, since that's EXACTLY what I thought the problem was. My apartment is the dustiest place on Earth.

This is a very common problem once you clean it out it will most likely be fine

You could try cleaning out with a can of compressed air. That the only other way with out removing the screws.
