Default XP won't start up

Alright well my friend is having problems with his computer so like always I said I'd take a look at it. This time the problem honestly doesn't seem fixable without purchasing a new motherboard or something. The computer boots up and at the very first screen where it says his motherboard model, it just freezes. This is before the keyboard is enabled and everything so I can't enter the setup. This is right before it would normally calculate his RAM and show his BIOS info and stuff. I checked to make sure there was nothing out of the ordinary plugged into his computer and made sure there was no disc in the drive. Then I unplugged everything from the computer and plugged it back in, just for the hell of it. I really don't have the slightest clue as to what could be the problem with this one. He said it just started happening out of nowhere (which I kind of doubt). What do you guys think could be the problem?

Oy,

Try this, remove all RAM modules, and plug only 1 in, boot, see if it works, if it doesn't, turn off, remove RAM, set it aside, plug the next module in, repeat. If all RAM fails, try acquiring a 120Mbs stick just to test.
Or, you can try resetting the BIOS by removing the little battery, turning it on, turn it off, put battery back in, turn on, or with the little CMOS breaker (though not all mobos have it)

Sorry, the only thing that I can think of is try flashing the BIOS manually with a jumper. Could be a BIOS thing but probably not. Otherwise wait and see if one of the Techs has an idea.

Thanks,
Adam
