Question [Answered] CPU Cooler feedback

Hi PCHF,
Some feed back.

Going back a bit i posted in regards to a noisey fan and I leaned towards replacing the CPU Cooler,
Well the cooler i ordered has not yet come in so i sought out another shop for a cooler.

For a very reasonable price he agreed to fit new CPU Cooler which they also supplied.

On going back to pick up the comp there was good news and bad news.

The good news was that they suspect it is not my fan at all.

The bad news is that they suspect my motherboard or at the least updating my BIOS.
The shop has rang the people who manufactured my comp seeking that little bit more advice (ie: that it could be a known problem) we are hoping that if it is the case at least the mobo will be covered under warranty, lol and as usual the warranty has expired ( hence we hope it is a known problem ).

I will keep u posted on what the fault is and if I get it fixed, labour is $77.00 an hr.

I am not lodging this post as problem to solve just letting u guys know what the end result might be.

Thanks

That's very expensive for labour. I would just take your comp back and ring the company yourself

Hi Cart. I remember some thing about this. What is the PC doing exactly for them to think it has a mainboard problem?
Dark Lord $77.00 is no bad In the workshop we charge $125.00 per hour for on the spot repairs and $88.00 for next day.

If it is a mainboard problem I have a few spares around if you need one cheap?

Seriously? WOW. It's 50$ here and I've always found that a total ripoff

Default Thanks

Thanks Matt,
not really sure why he thinks its the motherboard, only thing i can think of is because of the way the fan acts up.

Lol when I went in there first up one of the guys( when i explained my noise prob) told me straight up that the fan is dirty and comp needs a cleanout and also that I need to install case fans etc, lol he even wanted to bet me ten bucks that was the problem,ha ha to him as I clean my comps out regulary and thankfully I know just alittle about comps as to not get sucked in.I should have taken the bet.

Yes DarkLord $77.00 is the norm around here, yrs ago I got charged $30.00 for a shop to fit two RAM cards. Now I know better.

Thanks Matt if need be i will give a u yell for parts.

Cheers

I can't understand why they would want to replace the mainboard. I have never seen the power playup for the fan!

Are you sure there not taking you for a ride if you know what I mean

The guy that bet you $10.00 sounds like he new what he was on about this other guy mmmmmmm..........

Yeah I am not sure whats going on at present, intend to ring him shortly, I have had the fan off, cleaned it all, the comp is always kept clean as we have wood fire here so its amazing how quick it dust accumulates I actually physically stopped the fan and the noise stopped.

I am just hoping he has not damaged the mobo when trying to fit the new cpu cooler and resorting to covering any mistakes.

i know what u mean about being ripped off, that why as to date i have verified that no dollars are involved.
