Question [Answered] BOOT PC with "NOTHING"

Hey All!

I have a big problem!!! Here it is. I have a old laptop TOSHIBA 5005-S504. It was a super computer a while ago and still good enough to browse the net and word processing. My probelm:
There was a problem with my HDD, I need to reinastall the OS. I really don't care what kind of OS!!! I had the XP HOME on it. Now, the CD-ROM is broke and so are the USB's. I do have the IEEE1394 in the back but I was already told that it's not gonna work. So, my question is...is it possible to FORMAT the HDD (externaly of course) and then load "SOMEHTING" to it so I can boot the computer and then install the OS somehow. Maybe split the HDD and have some boot files on one and then SETUP files on the other....i don't know...please, is there evene a chance to boot this computer??? Maybe there is some kid of OS I can load on the HDD (like USB OS) and run it like that...please, someone...HELP ME!!!!

well, in theory you could load linux or an older version of windows(pre-xp) onto the hdd with a different pc and then it *SHOULD* run on the laptop, but it still may not, to do this you will need a laptop with the same type of hdd conector or a 2.5 to 3.5 cable converter so that you could connect it to a desktop, but what kind of problem did the hdd have? if it got badly damaged which caused the failure it may not be possible to resurrect, but i'll go and have a look on the ne tfor ya

EDIT: i just found this website which may be just what you are looking for:
