Ok well I did a complete search and my computer has no boot.ini file so I checked around google and as I thought, Vista does not use boot.ini it uses BCD.

This is just getting more and more complicated. Maybe I should just format everything and start over, as much as I don't want to.

Might be best to do a repair install of your XP then do this to fix the boot menu How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista. Or backup your data and start again when I set mine up i didn't need Vista Boot Pro. I installed XP first and partitioned the hard drive during the XP setup after it was installed I installed Vista on the partition I created and it sorted out the boot menus for me.

I forgot about BCD still getting used to vista

Ok I've been reading around and I guess I need boot.ini still on my D: drive (the drive where XP is installed) but boot.ini is not on there. I'm trying to create one but I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like. Keep in mind i have two seperate hard drives (C and D), not seperate partitions.

Here is a sample:

[boot loader]
timeout=20
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Pro" /fastdetect

But it would be disk1 instead of disk0, what else do I change?
