Welcome to PCHF.

Are you sure you have a DVD drive and not a CD only drive?
Have DVDs ever worked in the drive?
What application are you using to play the DVD?

First, check your BIOS to insure that the BIOS sees the DVD drives.
That is done by pressing the Delete key during bootup.
Second, check the Device Manager. Click on view hidden devices.
Does any of the device have a symbol over it indicating a problem?

Hi lupgop, welcome to the PCHF.

First thing you need to check, do you have all the security patches from MS? IE7 installed and all that jazz? Also if you update all hardware and software from MS Updates, this will solve alot of your problems. I've seen this issue before and Windows Update fixed it right up for me.
