Default [Answered] moving folders around in xp

Hi,
I have folders with all my music mp3s in.
The folder goes like this, music- album, tracks. The folder tracks has the mp3s inside.
My ps3 only reads the first 2 folders. Nothing deeper so it misses many that have lots of albums.
I need to drag the contents back a folder then delete the old folder so all the mp3s are located in the first folder only.
Is there an easy way of braking a folder open???
It could take hours.

many thanks
mat

I'm confused here. You can't copy the entire folder over? And if by ps3 you mean playstation3, then I really can't help, as I have not the slightest idea how those work......

Hello Math4043,

Navigate to the tracks folder (the one with all your MP3s in it), then hit EDIT at the top of the window, and then SELECT ALL. When all the tracks are selected, right click on one of them and make sure all of them stay highlighted, then click on CUT. Then navigate to the folder you want to move all the MP3s to, right click anywhere and click PASTE.

That should move all your MP3s to the folder you pasted them into.

Most MP3 players organize the music according to the ID3 tag information that is attached to the MP3. So if you move all your songs just into a general folder (and your tag information is filled in), it should still be organized according to artist/album/genre. I haven't used the PS3 for playing music though, but unless you are just using the PS3 to browse your computer, you shouldn't have to organize all your MP3s into folders.

If you haven't added tag information to your MP3s, a great program to do it with is Media Monkey. A free download. You can select all the songs in an album, then search for album information from amazon.com and then it can add all the info and even the album cover to your MP3s in one click. Pretty sweet.

I hope that helps and isn't too confusing.

Same here. I knew about the tag thing, but I didn't know "cut and paste" worked with files (I guess since I never needed it, I didn't know about it), and MediaMonkey sounds cool. I'll use that if I ever get rid of iTunes.

Also, the PS3 interface seems to be quite similar to the PSP from what I've seen, and I know the PSP organizes by tag and doesn't even have support for folders. Though I believe a firmware update has come around for the PSP which allows many levels of folders for Music (I may be remembering incorrectly though). If I remember correctly about the PSP firmware update, I imagine the PS3 will come out with similar support. Of course for now, I would follow Wadd's advice!
