Unhappy XP wont boot

Ok, I was running AVG Free and watching intertube (Note: AVG detected a .dll change prior to crash but scan was not finished that I know of) when my computer showed the following error screen:

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

it suggusted disableing BIOS Memory shadow / caching, checking new hardware / software updates or disable, working in safe mode. The tech info it gave on it is:
*** stop: 0x0000007A (0XC7B9648, 0C000000E, 0xF72c9642, 0X1AA9A806
*** ftdisk.sys -Address F72C9642 Base at F72BF000
date stamp 3b7d8419
dump of physical memory

at this point it takes awhile to shut itself down. Them when trying to reboot I actually got into the BIOS setting (it does not always allow this) where I reset all back to default, save and exit. It goes back to the boot screen but will not go into safe mode. It boots to a black screen that says :

MediaShield ROM BIOS 6.33
Copyright (c) 2005 NVIDA corp.
Detecting array...

This screen does not go away even after hours. I have unplugged the puter and sometimes it will work again, sometimes not. Currently it is not. It also wont boot from cd and wont let me into the boot menu.
Any help gettting it back up or what to do when it decides to is greately appreciated.

Welcome to PCHF.

Let's see if we can't get your computer working again...
1. Unplug your computer from the AC power source for at least 30 seconds.
2. Plug the AC back in and attempt to boot from the Windows Installation CD.
If that works, select the R option. This should repair your boot files, if necessary.
3. If you get that far, return to this site and this message.
4. Click in the Pre-Work in my signature. Follow the directions found there.
This will allow our Computer Security people to help your computer.
5. After they clear your computer, suggest your go to this link and check to see if you are needing any software drivers - DriverAgent.com Fix Your Driver Problems Instantly with Driver Agent

Good Luck...
