Default remote access

hi people,

I am trying to connect to my brothers pc from mine using some sort of remote connection

lebowski previously advised me to try and use tightvnc and ive also tried using realvnc and remote thing.

my problem lies that i cant seem to connect to the target pc using any of these, now i understand that im most def doing something wrong but i want to know what it is?

ive found a few step by steps online but they tend to skip things that they think you should know, thus resulting in me going wrong

does anyone know which of these is the best and is there a descent step by step from downloading it 2 actually remotely connecting.

sorry 4 being a dunse!

thanks

matt.

Hi guys...i know for a fact that Norton does not allow VNC through...
I also know that "turning off" the Windows Firewall...doesn't actually turn it off

You also need to ensure that both viewer is installed on yours, and server is installed on your brothers.

To turn off Windows Firewall properly - goto Start -> Run -> Services.msc -> Scroll down to Windows Firewall, double click on it and select Stop

Go to Open Port Check Tool and check that the ports your using are open on both PC's

Here's a fix for you.

Go to http://www.logmein.com and setup a free account. Either you or both of you can setup an account. just be sure which pc you want to connect to then go to that pc "in the real world" and install the logmein software that it has you install.

This software is firewall friendly. It uses NAT Traversal as long as you have a connection to the internets, you should be able to connect to that pc through logmein.com's website. It's easy to setup, and oh yeah its free. I use it all the time if for some reason Windows RDP doesnt want to play nice or some other remote software server clients fail.
