Wonder if anyone can make any sense of this? I frequently get the "Unable to display Web page" page on my PC. You know, the one you get when you're not connected to the internet or you've typed in the wrong URL or the web page may be experiencing problems etc. Thing is, when this happens I have a full and active internet connection and the URL is correct. So, what's the problem? Any thoughts?

Sounds like your modem might need a firmware update. I'd try that first

Hi. I'm new to this, so bear with me. I was having the same problem plus my computer would disconnect from the internet if it was idle more than 5 minutes. While I was perusing the Windows/XP area, I came across someone with the same problem. First of all, what do you use for a firewall. I downloaded the one recommended by Greenwitch (I can't think of the name of it right now -- but anyway, I uninstalled it and am using the Windows firewall and my problem went away.
Hope that helps. Linkylaw

There are many firewall apps out there (few are free, sadly) if you were having trouble with yours-- a switch might have helped. LGW would probably have recommended Zone Alarm free version?? Sound familiar? It can be difficult at times-- but usually updating it will usually fix the issue. I like Panda Internet Security-- it's a little more user friendly. Antivirus free download. Dear Ih8bills:
Thank you for helping me fix my computer. I can stay on the internet as long as I want -- that can be a bad thing too!! Unfortunately and fortunately, I'm getting cable installed. I need to know that my computer is in great shape before I proceed with cable. Thanks again, Linda |

You probably didn't allow your browser internet access in ZoneAlarm.
