Hello! I have been having problems lately with huge lag spikes on my conputer where my internet will actually stop for 15 seconds to a minute, and then catch up on itself. For e.g, if I'm in ventrillo, and someone is talking when a random spike occurs, their voice will stop comming through, and after the spike is done, everyone who spoke during the spike will come through all at once and quickly. OR in WoW the interface will become unresponsive during the spike, and then the game will catch up to itself after, playing out what occured during the spike; I.E. an NPC beating the **** out of me. This has only recently be going on (6 days), and my ISP Tech Line guy says the connection is running normally, with no stops or irregular speed. Is this actually a connection or cable splitter issue, and my ISP Tech is dumb? Or could this be a hardware issue brought on by a virus, or some malfunction?

My guess would be either malware or insufficient resources. If you could go here and post back with your results.
Also, please go to Start > Run and type dxdiag. Post back, attaching the log that DxDiag will generate. This will help us determine what sort of resources your PC has. |

Hmm. That looks fine. It definitely shouldn't be doing that. I suggest calling your cable company and asking them to come with a test modem. I had somewhat similar problems, and it ended with just having a dead modem.

Does this happen primarily with internet apps or does it happen with normal programs too?
It could very well be the modem causing the problem. Do you go through a router as well? Are you wired or wireless if you are using a router. If you are, try plugging the modem direct to the pc and retrying WoW or Ventrilo Maybe the router is having problems? A good solid 1 minute power cycle could help things too on the modem and the router. Could be caused by some spyware / malware in the box as well. Too many factors in play. |
