Actually, Gandalf, I know a lot of sites that offer free data recovery and HDD replacement. So, the data is not necessarily lost.

Since dropping the HDD is bound to have caused physical damage (since it doesn't work), I'm sure that it won't just be as simple as damaged files and likely won't be repaired in that sense. Likely it's best to leave it to the forensics professionals at the HDD manufacturing company.

There's nothing important that I need form my hard drive. Can anybody post some links to HD Recovery Specialists? PC World - Software, Hardware, Electronics & Gadgets Reviews, Downloads, How-To's & Pricing has some links to HD Recovery sites. I'll try them for now, but if anybody has any other ideas, present them to me ASAP... I'm thinking about getting a RAID-0 or RAID-1 connection....

Thanks, Gandalf.

The manufacturer can also be found on the sticker on the Hard Drive itself. Since we are going to see if an RMA (Return Material Authorization) is possible, you are going to need to take it out (as I am sure the manufacturer requires Serial numbers).

This guide illustrates how to replace a Hard Drive:
Replacing a Hard Drive - Illustrated How to Replace a Hard Drive

You will need to just follow the instructions for removing the drive for now. I suggest saving the guide for later so you know how to put the replacement back in.

You have two choices, I think.
1. Put the drive in a PC/Laptop and see if it works. Most drives today are built pretty well. I would think it probably survived a simple drop. If you throw it against a brick wall, then you might have a problem.
2. Take the drive to computer shop and ask them to check it out.

Good Luck...
