Default [Answered] XP disc snapped

Hi all

I have managed to snap my XP disc that came with my HP laptop. Is there a way of retrieving/burning/salvaging my OS so if I ever need to reformat my hard drive I dont have to fork out the money for a new disc? A guy in work said the OS lives in the CAB files and you can get it from there but he cant remember how.

All I need is a bootable copy of my XP disc without forking out for a new one.

My pc is 2 years old and now out of warranty.

Thank you in advance

You must contact the company that produced the PC an get a Recovery CD from them.

P.S.: How and why did you snap the disk?!

yup. If you didn't create a repair disk, or receive recovery disks, you will need to contact the company, or plead your case with MS.

Don't ask!! I was re-installing my Linksys driver (via CD-ROM) and put some discs in my pocket, as the PC is upstairs. And, DUH!, someone sat down on a hard chair, ME!!

Took the discs out of my pocket and sods law, it was the XP disc that bought it.

I shall contact HP and beg for a replacement. Thanks guys

'sods law'?

That doesn't have anything to do with laying grass, does it?

I'm going to mark this as answered, but leave it open if you need further assistance, jsn....good luck.....we've got about 750 hp's around my work, and I've found that they are generally pretty easy to work with.

Thanks,

v
