Default Cooler

Thanks GaRHaR ,

Just drifting off the cooler bit for a sec, my wifes comp CPU is 2.8 GHz ( hope thats right )
could that CPU be replaced with a larger GHz CPU, this is just a curiosity question.

Since doing these posts on the CPU cooler I suppose I have become inquisitve more so about what inside the comp and its workings.

Thanks for the link AusPC Market Product List, so basically, have a read through the coolers for sale and pick one.As I said earlier I am somewhat lost with these coolers and when the penny drops on how easy was that, I shall remain looking like a d... head.

Thankyou Kindly

Lol cart...everyone starts to learn somewhere - it's what we are here for...and you definately don't look like a d... head

I'm not too sure about your wifes computer, or if it can handle more - that cpu age is around when i didn't care about Intel CPUs so i never paid that much attention. One of the other techs will definately be able to help you in that area

In regards to which cooler and all that, I highly recommend Zalman coolers - i have one, as do most of my friends - very good and very quiet...nice and reliable

Default Cooler

Thanks GaRHaR
I sent an email to Aus PC about the cooler and in the email quoted, the specs:

On doing a system spec it tells me the mobo is an Acer E661GXM.
> The comp is an Acer Incorporated ( Intel R ) Celeron(R) CPU 2.8GHz, 256 MB RAM.

This is the reply I recieved back:

Thanks for your inquiry. I cant find much information on the internet as
to what this board and your system will take as far as coolers. Do you
know what socket type it is? Either LGA775, or 478? ALso what is the
case? If it's a low profile case, then not many aftermarket fans will
fit.
If Acer are anything like Dell, where they make all there own components
and don't stick to any standards, then unfortunately there is a very
good chance we wont have anything that will fit your motherboard/case.

So I measured the wifes the comp as this is the one with the cooler change and it as follows:
Height 35cms
Length 44cms
Width 17.5cms

I also mentioned in the email that I was refered to Aus PC by a Tech in a PC help site, I did not mention this site as i dont know what things govern this site in respect to mentioning its name.

In respect to that he mentioned this:

If your Tech can tell you more about the system, or maybe
even get him to look through our CPU parts .

I will go and look at what you recommended in the Zalman coolers, i was going to ask u at some time for a recommendation.
So does the above change things?

Also GaRHaR hopefully I can change this cooler, when I know exactly what I need then I will def order it and do the change, however it is not as though I need to do it tomorrow type thing,so if I need to be put on the back burner as their are other people which need help, then thats not a drama.

I am learning that slow and patience stops me from .

Thankyou GaRHaR

P.S. i was pretty stoked that they got back to me within an hr or so.

Yea, their service is flat out unbeatable - apart from ours here of course

We don't mind you mentioning our site...I'd be surprised if they have heard of us at the moment to be honest.

I'll read through your post and give you a reply in a minute...see if i can find anymore information about your system as well.

Ok...
I think I've found something. On your case anywhere, does it say AcerPower S280 R01-B4 anywhere?
I'm 100% certain it's a socket 478.

As to whether it's a low profile case or not..are you able to take a photo of it and upload it? I'm not familiar with the actual dimensions
