Default [Resolved] IBM Windoows XP Edition

Hi frends,
i juz bought 2 IBM 2nd hand computers from a shop. i want to reboot the computer but i dun have the CD with me.

I have the licensed serial no. on the casing . it is a Windows XP Pro 1,IBM corporation.

I tried installing Windows XP on this system with a retail version and it said wrong Product key. Then i downloaded the Windows XP Pro OEM version from the internet , i got the same error message saying that " wrong Product key "

What type of Windows XP cd should i use to install my OS ?

Will be greatlful if anyone can help. thak you very much .

Hi blod3000, welcome to the PCHF.

Unfortunately IBM/Dell/HP/Toshiba/Etc all have deals with MS that only copies of Windows XP supplied by IBM works with IBM machines...same with all the other companies.

You'll need to contact IBM and have them ssend out the CD(s) for you. It might cost $15 or so...maybe..

Oh, my. 65 of any currency is a lot for a Restore CD (except Yen. xD). I know Dell sends them for free. I got 2 extras from 'em in case I lose one (again) and they still didn't charge.

Shoot for a Dell next time!

There's also the possibility of just picking up a retail version of XP Pro, though more expensive, you won't have to worry about "will it work on this computer?" kind of issues, if you decide to get a new PC, you can save yourself some money by avoiding the brand name computers and you'll have to activate pro over the phonewith MS and make sure you remove it from the older computer (old computers should automatically become the 98/DOS compatible box or the Linux Hobby box lol).

That last part is illegal. Please re-read our rules.

It is so expensive, because they're basically giving you a new license.
You might be able to get a second hand one of ebay or something like that...
