Default [Pending] XP sound driver problems g-1050

Im dual booting with windows xp and ubuntu 7.04. On ubuntu sound seems to work, but with xp it doesnt seem to recognise my speakers, it just says 'no audio device' and in my device manager there is a ? next to multimedia audio controller. what confuses me is why it works on one and not the other.
I have two hard drives the old one used to have just xp and the sound was working fine as i remember.

Recommend deleting the device with the ?, then reboot.
This will force Windows to find the device again.
1. If still marked with a ?, then is the "multimedia audio controller" under the "Sound, video and game controllers" heading?
2. If not, what is the heading?
3. Do you have a sound card? If so, what is the make/model?

the mutlimedia controller is just under 'other', after removing it and attempting to reinstall it still no sound. but, it moved from other to "Sound, video and game controllers". it had trouble installing the driver, insufficient resources to complete installation. would the xp cd have the 'multimedia audio controller' driver on it, or is there another way around it. I have a legacy sound card. dont kno model.

Hi ange1os, welcome to the PCHF.

I suggest going to Microsoft Update and doing a Custom update, selecting all critical, software and hardware updates. This should sort you out with your drivers and give you all the latest fixes for windows.

As this is a driver issue, the log willl solve nothing unfortunately.
Can you please follow my suggestion in my previous post, and let me know if it works for you?
