It's been down clocked to stock since end of March due to heat problems (house temperature is higher nowadays).

I haven't tried removing/replacing/reseating the CPU yet but I've got very little Artic Silver left.

Right now I got it to boot into Vista install, did the User setup, now supposedly it's getting everything ready to load the desktop. After which I'm hoping to be able to get CPU-Z or Everest or maybe even pcpitstop.com to diagnose the computer. It's just being so incredibly slow. Bleh.

I have found the problem... CPU is maxed at 100% usage 24/7 no relaxing. I don't get this. It's going at full throttle and somehow staying at 30 degrees celsius.. It's running COLDER then it does normally when idling. My god. What the heck. O.o

yea that is strange...might be a crack in the dye...
CPU usage shouldn't effect an install or bootup like it has done...

Well what's interesting is. It'll idle as long as it stays in BIOS. But as soon as I try booting from anything, it sky rockets to 100%

Edit: What's even more itneresting is that I can touch my CPU heatsink assembly and it's only warm to the touch

How can a crack happen though? I'm guessing if I remove it I'll be able to see the crack? (No not the drug :P)

Is there a way to find out without looking at it physically?

unfortuantely not.

a crack can happen a few ways if that has indeed happened...
overheating too much - causes strain.
if might have happened before you installed the CPU and you're only having the effect now - rare but possible

the heatsink is on too tight maybe.

To see if it is a crack, you'll need to pull the CPU out and clean off all the thermal paste
