I'm assuming you have an ethernet cable going from your PC to the router

If this is the case the router will have NO software installed on your computer, you use the in-built TCP/IP protocol to connect to the router.

For AOL I've always used the Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel. There maybe more than one AOL item to remove
.

Hi Folks,

Ok I have a similar problem only my netgear is wireless, I am assuming that once I disconnect my old one from the power the computer will automatically loose the connection with the existing router and replace it with the new router once that is plugged it to a power source (again wireless) the computer will pick up the signal. Am I correct in thinking this way.

Also I am thinking of purchasing a new Netgear wireless router, I currently have a Netgear DG834GT 108Mbps wireless ADSL modem firewall router with 4 port 10/100 switch.
Can anyone recommend one which will help me gain extra signal strength and possibly faster connection etc. Whats the best one out there these days? I am paying for up to 8mb broadband with my ISP at the moment and I have a maximum of 4 pc/laptops at any one time running.

Thanks in anticipation of your help

Yes

With regard to a new wireless router I've always preferred Netgear. I'm not going to make any recommendations as in normal circumstances the speed from the PC to the router is adequate. It's the strength of the signal through walls etc that causes problems.

No doubt others in this forum may have other ideas to help.
