Hello all
I am in a dillema!
My pc has started shutting down by itself - no warning just turns off, usually about 2 or 3 minutes of turning it on. It started about a week ago or so, I normally leave my pc on all the time and would come to it and find it off like it was in standby (the power supply is still running) but everything else is off.
I haven't upgraded anything or installed anything new.
Also, it seems to run in administrator safe mode ok (but not safe mode in my user name) which makes me think it's software not hardware.
Any help and I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
Martin

Hello Martin,
Welcome to PCHF. Does this occur when your actively using the PC, or when you leave it for a while? What software do you have open at the time? Have you checked your power settings in My Computer, Control Penel, Power Options? |

Hi Madmonkey
Thanks for the reply and the welcome. It seems to do it not long after I have switched on - pretty much after everything has loaded up. It doesn't seem to matter if I am using it or not it still turns off although the power supply still runs. I haven't checked Power Options yet but I'm not sure it would give me time - unless it can be checked in administrator safe mode which, as yet, hasn't shut down. Thanks, Martin |

You should be able to access in Safe Mode. Also, if you think it may have something to do with you account, you can create another in Safe Mode, under Control Panel, User Accounts. When you load Windows in Normal mode, see if the same thing happens, altough I think your problems are more likely to be either a physical power problem, or a power setting from within Windows.
