I've Googled several times using that error number-- the one thing that keeps popping up-- is --do you have any daemon tools installed....
Daemon Tools - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
OR
a CD/DVD copier of some type.
All the posts I read suggested uninstalling those and retrying.
This could be caused by about 1.5 bajillion different things--so tracking it down won't be easy

I don't have anything like that installed. And yeah, I saw all the possible fixes to this problem.

Okay, new important information. I just tried the game on my sister's laptop. It got the exact same 5005 error. What this probably means is that it's an issue with the DVD. I'm going to return it to Wal-Mart and hopefully the new DVD will work.

yup, with the -5005 : 0x8007000d and the bt_other, it's going to be bad media 99 times out of 100.

My knee-reaction was to do what monkey said, rename the installshield file, and I'm a bit surprised that that didn't work; it pretty much nails it down to the install media. Least I hope so.

thanks,

v
