Do you have enough space to copy the contents of the CD to your HDD? If so, can you create a folder on your desktop called say Oblivion. Then copy the contents of the CD to that folder and then run setup from there?
I have plenty of room. I'll try that and let you know how it goes.

That didn't work. I even tried renaming the new InstallShield folder but that didn't do anything either. Are you as lost as I am about what this could be?

Sorry wolf, I've just realised there's another InstallShield folder you need to rename in C:\Program Files\Common Files. Can you try renaming that too?

Don't worry about it. That one didn't work. What's really odd is that all my other games install fine. It's just this one game that doesn't want to cooperate.

This may seem like a silly question, but you are using the original CD right? Only I've just been onto Macrovision the suppliers of InstallShield. The only other known problem is where older versions of setup files (pre v5.x) are used with newer.

Otherwise, my last suggestion (however, this has rarely worked), is to simulate the conditions of the machine these files were created. To do this, you will need to change your Regional and Language Options, from within Control Panel and change everything you see from "United States" to "United Kingdom" from both Regional Options tab, Languaged > Details and the Advanced tab, just for the installation.

That didn't work either.

I'm using the original CD, so I don't know what else there is to try. I think I'm just going to take it back to the store. Thanks anyway. I really appreciate all your help.

Any time.. but Oblivion it's a fantastic game. I'll see if any of the other Tech's can help before you do.
