Default [Pending] Is my comp fried people?

Hi there, No comp guru here I'm afraid so I will try to explain to the best of my ability the problem I have in the hope that someone more comp literate than me (that should be easy) can help.
I upgraded my 512mb ram memory by adding another 512mb which came from my sons comp.

For 3months my comp was running great however my son asked me for his memory back as he had asked someone to fix his comp for him so I duly did so.

I then tried to start my comp only to find it wouldn't boot. I then put my sons ram back in to my comp along with mine in the hope it would boot but it didn't. I then just tried my sons and still my comp didn't boot.

Question is people, have I fried my comp? What kind of damage have I likely caused and can it be fixed without buying a new comp?
Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to PCHF!

Where does it stop during the booting? Does it get to the Windows XP boot screen, logons or does it just stop before Windows loads. Also, what kind of motherboard do you have? (If you don't know, post what kind of computer it is - Example: Dell OptiPlex GX150)

Thanks,
Adam

Hi, thanks for answering. My comp goes no futher than turning it on and being faced with a black screen.

The make of my comp is Infinity, the motherboard user manual says EPoX
(Intel i848P mainboard for Intel socket 478 processor)

Ok, well this may get a little confusing but go into the BIOS and look for a setting called Setup of memory timings and change it to Refresh Mode Select. Then find the setting that is called Setup of memory frequency change it to Auto. Save and exit out of the BIOS and try to boot it up again.

Good luck,
Adam

Make sure the RAM stick is fully in. Having it almost in makes the computer reboot sometimes. When you push it in it will feel like your going to break it, but you will know its in when you hear a click noise.

Yeah. RAM needs a lot of pressure to be inserted. The tabs on the RAM slot should close themselves when you push in the RAM stick. But do what EA says, because it sounds like this problem started before you had a chance to mess up a RAM installation.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help unfortunately I hope you all have patience as I'm not always able to be around a pc.

Rodents210 It would be a great help to me if you could please explain a wee bit more as to why you said "because it sounds like this problem started before you had a chance to mess up a RAM installation. "

My pc was working fine before I took the RAM out.
What could I have done prior to installation of the RAM?
In the mean time I shall crack on with what EA advised.
Thanks guys.
