Exclamation Laptop hooked up to monitor makes graphics card run slower

I had to connect my laptop to a desktop monitor, becuase the laptop's screen is cracked. I noticed that after I hooked it up the monitor, the games I play go slower than before and DVD's now hiccup. (I turn on the desktop monitor, I keep the laptop's screen off) EVERYTHING palyed smoothly until I connected it to the monitor.. Does the graphics card have to work harder when hooked to a monitor?

Additional Details

I am asking this becuase the laptop was pushed off a desk and fell (possibly damaging the graphics card that way.) I don't think it is spyware or viruses, because I formatted my entire computer and still had the problem minutes after.

Specs:

O.S: Windows XP SP2
Laptop Model: Toshiba Satellite A105-S2051
Graphics Cards: (Multiple Monitors) on ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 M Series [64 MB]

Hi Qelery

The more monitors you have, the harder your graphics card has to work.
Keep your laptop monitor off while you're watching the movies and all will be well.

GaRHaR is absolutely right. Also, most laptops are drop-tested, so it should be fine after being dropped. I don't recommend being reckless, though.

Hey-- did you ever see this ?? You CAN replace that LCD ( for a more reasonable price.) The compnay specializes in just this problem --it's all they do.

Laptop LCD Screen

Okay I switched the view from the desktop monitor to the laptop's screen. Games seem to play 2-3x faster. I do have one more question though:

My laptop's screen is cracked where as you can only see the top left corner of the screen (only about 10% works .) If I upgrade my graphics card from 64 MB to 256 MB, will that make games run faster when it is hooked up to the monitor (because buying a new laptop screen cost half my PC price)?

You won't be able to find an upgrade for the laptop, or atleast I highly doubt it.

And if you did, it would probably be a bit more expensive than if you got a decent new laptop (with a working LCD, too!).

Laptops really just aren't gaming machines, though. You're better off getting a desktop PC for that.
