Default Switching Boot Drives

In order to much speed up hte boot process of my computer, i want to switch the boot drive. the HDD taht has windows on it, is a very old, slow, 5.4krpm drive. i want to move windows to my newer 7.2krmp maxtor hdd, which is much faster. can i do this? any suggestions on how?

yeah. I have a bunch of stuff on it, and i dont want to have to reinstall EVERYTHING. it would take forever. if i cant do it this way, ill just deal.

Hmm, the only thing I can think of is connecting both drives and doing a 'byte copy' of the drive onto the newer one using something like dd on a linux live cd.

This will probably turn into a pain in the *** later on though as you'll have to expand partitions etc.
