Post Audio/sound driver help please!

hi, i have a dell dimension 5100 and i had to buy a new hard drive. everything works fine except for sound, i download the correct audio driver from the dell website but before it installs it says my system doesn't support it.

when i go to check my audio levels it says no mixer devices found and advises me to go to printers and other hardware and then click add new hardware. i do that and after it, it says put in a cd if i got one with my speakers but i didnt and from then on i have no idea what to do

when i go on sounds and audio devices it says no audio devices found and its all greyed out.

any help would begreatly appreciated, ive been trying myself to fix this for ages but cant

I suggest downloading "Everest Free edition" and selecting the PCI/PnP audio option from the multimedia tab.

This will then give you the name and/or model number of your sound card.

When you have this you will be able to search this into google and found the appropriate driver for your sound card
