Default Boot Disk Failure on startup?

Hi all,

Ive just come to start up my PC but it now displays "Boot from CD ROM" "Disk Boot Failure, Insert system disk and press Enter".

Now it says that my primary boot method is CD-ROM, dispite the fact that ive never used a CD ROM to boot it. Perhaps its been using the secondary boot method of Hard Drive.

Does anyone know how I can go forward from here?

Thanks
Rich

Hi Rich,

This may sound dumb but this has happened to me before. Make sure there is no CD in the CD-ROM Drive and there is no floppy disk in the floppy drive.

Hi,

Hadn't checked until now but both are empty. I'd try putting in the boot disk but ive lost it somewhere!

Just odd that it came up as it was working perfectly just a few hours before I booted it up.

Ok, are you pressing any keys when it says boot from CD-ROM? If you press ANY key it will attempt to boot from the CD-ROM drive and you don't want that right now.

do what eagle says, if that doesn't work, may want to check the bios to make sure your hd is still recognized there. If it is, boot into safe mode and run chkdsk /r from the command prompt.

If the hd isn't recognized in bios, could have more serious issues.

Whats happening is its just stuck on the initial start up screen saying "Disk Boot Failure, Insert system disk and press Enter".

Only buttons ive pressed are DEL so I could have a look in the BIOS to see what order it was booting up. Was on 1) CD ROM 2) Floppy Disk 3) Hard Drive.

Thanks
Rich
