Hi,

Im looking at the BIOS now, ive gone onto "Standard CMOS Features". What should I be looking for to find out about the HD?

if the hd is still good, yes. If it has failed, no. That's why you want to check the bios first to see if it's even recognizing it. My money is that in his bios it says 'unrecognized device' under hard drives, and the ONLY boot option is cd rom.

go to boot options, see what your options are, also should see an area for hard drive 1 and 2, you should be able to toggle between off, enabled, disabled, etc.....we need to know what those are set to, as those are set by the pc during post.

Hi, do you mean on the "Advanced BIOS Features" page?

If so it says:

First Boot Device: Hard Drive
Second Boot Device: Floppy Disk
Third Boot Device: Hard Disk
Boot other device: Enabled

Is that what you mean?

Ive tried pressing F8 when it loads up but wont take me onto any boot options menu

What happens Rich ok is the system looks for boot files on all three media.
It looked at the cdrom and couldn't find an operating system, it looked at the floppy and the same happened, it finally looked at the hdd and it was not there.
Your hdd is down the pipe Rich sorry mate.

Hi,

Its been running really slow recently as well and making allot of noise! It was under quite some load. Had it about 5 years now, dont know how long their supposed to last.

Also do you know if I can get any of the data recovered?
