Default When PC boots up year is always set to 2005

Hello everyone hope you can help.
Heres the story:
My PC was running fine Windows XP on SP1 last week.
The PSU died Friday and I had to replace it.
I went back on line on Monday had a AVG 7.5 update went on-line and started to get Virus Threat pop ups for for PSW Generic 4 and PSW Lineage. I downloaded used AVG Adware and this appears to have removed the malware and all scans have come back clean for virus and adware and I went on line last night for two hours without any threat pop ups. However the Windows clock is set to 2005 you can change it but after a reboot it sets back to 2005. The CMOS clock is correct at 2007. Does anyone have any advice help or information that will help me get the clock set back to the correct year. It immediately causes a problem on AVG as the database dates are thrown up on start up.
Any help appreciated.

Disable NTP synching and set the date/time.

No worries mate, it's not stupid, I was in a rush earlier and should've explained a little better.

Double click on the clock and click the 'Internet time' tab, then uncheck 'Automatically synchronize with an internet time server'

Default Tried that it didn't help

What I did learn tonight is that the clock has the correct year when started in safe mode.
Any ideas what may be going on?
