Default [Answered] Serious GUI problem and Error.

Today I was clearing out my harddrive, uninstalling some programmes I didn't need, when I got the BSOD.

It rebooted, and I found that my Firefox and IE browsers were both italicizing random parts of webpages, and I couldn't get it to stop. It wasn't to do with how I viewed the page.

Then, I suddenly got another BSOD. When rebooting, I saw that the startscreen was ALSO all iitalicized. Windows explorer was all glitched up, and I realised that everysingle bit of text, both on the webpages and in the BIOS that wasn't originally bolded or italicized, had become italicized.

I rebooted twice, but the problem didn't go away. Suddenly the screen flashed and I got a message telling me that Windows had recovered from a serious error.

These codes were included;

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f78448f0, parameter3 ba44a9a8, parameter4 00000000. OSVer: 5_1_26000 SP: 2_0 Product: 256_1

I am using a HP Laptop running Windows XP Home Edition.

I am in the middle of scanning for malware, nothing yet.
I did a disk error check, but it couldn't complete for some reason. Got to the end of Phase 2.

I got a BSOD a couple of days ago, and that caused everything to go, not italics, but bold. But it worked again after I rebooted. This isnt.

Any help?

Hello Xeedee,

The 8e BSOD is normally hardware compatibility issues. Can sometimes be a driver issue. Sometimes installed software have shared files. During an un-install, you are normally asked if you would like to delete any shared files. A lot of people I have found have just answered "yes", when most of these shared files will affect the operation of it's related software and in some cases, driver.

EDIT: Marked as answered.
