Default Sound Device Errors

I restarted my PC this afternoon and when it loaded back up the sound would not work. I hadn't changed anything.

I checked device manager and it had a long list of things under the "Audio, Video and game controller" section.

All had error 39 saying the drivers were corrupt or could not be loaded. I reinstalled my sound card drivers and that didn't work. I then removed my soundcard, activated the on board sound card and then installed the drivers for that. to no avail.

My games will not load either. they simply stay black at the beginning and thats it. I have tried updating the driver of all the things in device manager but XP says "Cannot find" or basicly that the ones i have are fine.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Hi and Welcome to PCHF!

I think you just have a corrupt windows file, easy enough to fix. Insert your Windows Install disk into the CD-ROM drive and go to Start > Run and type in sfc /scannow. It will scan your computer for missing or corrupt Windows files and replace them from the CD. When it finishes, restart your computer.

If it doesn't work then, please do the Prework in my signature. If it does work, tell us that it works and be happy.

Good luck,
Adam

Thats bad. You will need to get ahold of an XP disk.
