Default Hard drive memory

I tried to clean out my hard drive by re-installing windows xp, I thought this would restore it so I had a fresh hard drive. This hasn't happened, the hard drive is still 55% full and I can't see where or how this is being stored. I thought I would only have used about 5gig. My wife re-installed Egypt 2 & 3 and started to play it and all the old data is still on the HD somewhere, so this leads me to believe all the old **** is still there somewhere and I can't find it. I tried to format the HD but it won't let me

Hi stepmar1973, welcome to the PCHF.

When you reinstalled Windows, did you format during the process, or did you do a repair install?

Repair install will only reinstall windows without losing any data.
And if you didn't format, your data will still be there, just not have icons in windows until the software is still installed (as your wife has discovered with Egypt 2 & 3).
Formatting will only work from the Windows Setup (when windows is not currently running).

If you want a clean install, follow this guide here

Clean Install Windows XP
