Default [Resolved] Quick Launch Toolbar

My QLToolbar keeps disappearing.

I can understand why this might happen after a crash but not why it randomly (so it appears) to happen after a clean shutdown and restart or just a restart. Not only do I need to re-enable it, but I then need to reset the order the icons appear.

Any suggestions on how to get it to behave itself?

Alternatively, is there a utility / script I can use to automate restoring it?

As an aside, does this possibly have a link to another issue I have with explorer not remembering how I view my files and folders as that also resets itself?

Hi etoad, and welcome to the forums.

Just a question, is this on a home machine or a computer in an office or on a domain?

If it's a home machine, put your Windows CD in the drive and in the run box under the start menu, type "sfc /scannow" (without quotes). If you don't have a Windows CD then just type the command anyway, without it.

Hi there - did as you suggested and it ran the WFP scan without errors or any feedback.

And it's a home PC - though to be fair it used to be part of a domain until I fried my test server. That said, it has been re-built at least once since then.

Ok, do you lose it only after a crash or just on any random shutdown?

Are you using multiple user accounts or is there only yours?

If the first question can be answered yes, try setting your taskbar properties to "show Quick Launch", then restart your computer immediately to save the changes to your profile, if you re-enable it and your pc crashes you will lose those changes as they are not saved to your profile if your machine isn't properly shut down.

Alternately you may have a corrupted user profile, it may have to be deleted and built from scratch but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Apologies - been away for a few days and along the way I decided to rebuild my pc so this issue is now moot.

I ddin't think about it being my profile - but at day's end I'd have rather rebuild my pc as it would entail almost as much work in getting it back to where I want. This way at least I get a fresh slate.
