Default Video problem

Ever since I re-installed windows XP home its been unable to play videos properly. All my DVD's or general AVI files on the computer +_ other formats all appear dark and you can't really see them. Audio if fine. I have never had this problem before and its very frustraiting. I am not very good with this aspect of computers. Is it some codec or missing driver?

There a few different things that can be causing this, lets first check to see if you have the proper driver installed.

1) Go to start > run and type in devmgmt.msc.
2) Look for any yellow exclamation points next to anything, if you see it put what you see that has that next to it in your next post.

Also, what is the make and model of your video card?

Its a Nvidea GeForce FX 5200 with the latest forceware driver. General display itself is fine, its only video files and DVD's where there is a problem (where its really really dark and its not balance or contrast settings or anything). The driver is _thee_ latest compatible forceware driver from Nvidea.

I only use this PC to store files and watch dvd's while i work on my main laptop. /i had the PC with the problem for 3 years and this problem only happened when re-installing windows (which I have done several times in the past with no problem)

devmgmt.msc. turned up 1 '?' ~ PCI communications controler.

I feel that some software or OS function is missing, broken or I have forgot to install or something

I am not very good with video stuff but you can try this. Insert your Windows Install disk and go to start > run and type in sfc /scannow. It will search your computer for any missing OS files and restore them from the disk.
