Default XP start up problem

Hello, i have a problem with Xp when i start my pc up i get a screen. The screen says that there was a problem that may occured by new hardware or software. But i haven't done anything new. I get the choice do start in safe mode, in the last configuration when the pc worked and the normal configuration. When i choose on of them i get the loading screen of XP and it loads constantly so that's the problem. I get this problem with any option i chose. Does somebody knows what the problem is?

Sorry the bad english i'm from Belgium

Do you mean the cd or the bootdisk? I think I have one. But do you mean that i have to install it again. I want to keep the stuff on my harddrive. I forget to say that i also have Illusion 2000 on my pc. It's a program that keep my computer clean. You can only save stuffe in your documents and when you want to install a programm permanent you first need to deactivate it.

No you don't have to reinstall everything, at this point you have a couple of options.

Put the CD in the drive and enter the windows recovery console, once you've logged in type chkdsk and let it run, then reboot, if this works, good if not....

Repair install, go through the menu as if you're going to reinstall and then just hit R for a repair install, this will run through the install leaving all of your programs and files intact
