I had this problem last year and I went months without sound. As I was starting up my computer one day, I pressed F1 and went into the setup utility then pressed setup defaults. When windows started back up, my sound was back. There was no problem with my drivers or anything. I'm not sure how it worked but it did a couple times. I don't know if this is your problem..it's worth a shot though.
