Your XP Basic is on one partition and your XP Pro is on another partition, yes? Removing one will open up that partition for other uses. Having said that, considering how inexpensive hard drives are now, you might want to consider buying an external hard drive.
I have a procedure, but I have NEVER tried it myself. So, I can not be sure that it works. You might want a second opinion before using it. Backup any personal data you want to keep on to a CD.
1. Boot your computer in to Windows XP Basic.
2. Place your XP Pro in the CD drive.
3. Go to “Start” and “Run”. Type in “e:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force” (without quotes, and replacing e: with the drive letter of your XP Pro CD).
4. Restart the computer, and you will notice the boot selection menu is gone.
5. Format the partition/drive where you had XP Pro installed.
6. Remove two files (Boot.BAK & Bootsect.BAK) on your XP Basic drive’s root folder ( C:\ ), these were backup files of your previous bootloader, now no longer useful.
7. Remove the CD from the CD drive.
8. Optional: Restart to ensure it still works.
9. Use your partition software to merge your partitions together or create an additional empty drive.
Good Luck
