Default Windows XP Professional SP2 Full Student Release

I would like to enquire does this release differ from a OEM Windows XP pro release that you obtain off the shelf? (For example like would there be a pop-up to prompt you for a password to log-in as an administrator, all the other extras that come with a OEM win xp pro sp2?) Would it be inferior to an OEM win xp pro sp2 release?

As far as I know three is absolutely no difference apart from you may need verification that you are infact, a student.

I wouldn't recommend buying an OEM license either, buy the full retail version as if you change hardware on the OEM edition you will have problems activating your installation.

Is there any perticular reason why you need XP Pro? It would be cheaper to buy home unless you require some of the features in XP Professional.

Well if it's for study purposes...study of the OS itself - there are many features available that are not in Home...such as Group Policy (very big thing in IT as you would know lebo )

Lebron, there are no real differences...i think Lebo is correct, and it's just a more affordable verison if yo u can prove you're a student...that being said - it might be a cut down version (no Luna, for instance). To be honest...i haven't got a clue in the world

Although I hope you're getting it legitimately, Lebron. The Full Student Release is the version of Windows XP that is usually pirated because it requires no activation except for updating.

Basically speaking, there are no differences in terms of features in either OEM,off-the-shelf and full student release right?

This is correct.

The cost difference between OEM and the full off the shelf box version, is OEM can be installed onto 1 computer...and 1 computer only...once you install it on that computer - it's stuck there forever, get a new copmuter? get a new copy of windows.

Off the shelf - can install it on any computer you want, as long as there's only 1 install of it at one time

Student...going by Rodents, only validation through updates is required.
