Default [Resolved] Can't right click in Start menu

When I open the start menu, the only thing I can right click on is "all programs". The pinned items, My Computer, My Documents, everything within All Programs, etc. all do nothing when I right click. It's the same whether I use the XP or classic style start menu.

I've googled the problem, and it seems that a common solution is to tick "Enable dragging and dropping" in the advanced options, but I can't even find a tickbox for that in there.

In the Classic mode,
Click on Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
Click on Device Manager
Under menu "View", Click on "Show hidden devices"
Does anything look wrong?
Have any of the + folders opened?
If any of the + folders opened, delete the marked items.
If none of the + opened, click on "Mice and other printing devices"
If you can, Right click on listed mouse.
Click on Uninstall
If you can't right click, delete the listed mouse.
Reboot to force Windows to Re-recognize the Mouse.

Good Luck...

Hello Asi,

To enable dragging and dropping, right click on your taskbar, click properties, click start menu tab, click customize on whatever type of start menu you have. If you have XP start menu, you will have to click advanced tab again, then check the enable dragging and dropping box. If you have classic start menu, right after you click customize, you will see the enable dragging and dropping box.

I deselected that box to verify if it works or not, when I unchecked it, it produced the same results you are experiencing. I can't say that that is 100% your problem however.

Hope that helps!

There wasn't an "Enable dragging and dropping" option there.

I found something in the registry though, at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoChangeStartMenu and changed it from 1 to 0. Then the "Enable dragging and dropping" option was there, but it was already ticked. I unticked it, applied, reticked it, applied, then logged off and on again, and now it works.
