Ok, I've attached the .sys driver file you need to this in a .zip file. Unzip to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers or C:\WINNT\system32\drivers whichever is your system32 directory. Then do this again:

1) Right click on My Computer and click Properties.
2) Click on the Hardware tab.
3) Click Device Manager.
4) Find your CD-ROM Drive in that list (it should have a yellow exclamation point by it)
5) Right click it and click Update Driver.
6) In the window that pops up, select install from a specific location.
7) Select dont search, I will select a driver to install.
8) Click Have Disk (its a button).
9) Click Browse and find your system32 dir and go into drivers and find the file named NEC_IDE.sys.
Attached Files
File Type: zip NEC_IDE.zip (7.9 KB, 5 views)

There is a compressed file inside.
You can use WinRAR to get to the compressed file.
You can get the WinRAR from this site - http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar37b8.exe

Do you have a windows disk?

DOH, ignore that ^^

Also, we know exactly what it's like to have a frustrating computer problem, we didn't just wake up being able to fix it

Do you have another CDROM drive you could use?

The file name is nec_ide.sys.
Suggest you do a search from the C:\ level, to include sub folders, to see if the file is in your C: drive. If the search come up nill, then extract the file again and put into your C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder. Then, follow the procedure through the Device Manager to activate the installation.

Good Luck...
