The first thing I would recommend doing is trying a different pair of headphones/speakers as it's useless going into everything else and finding out the drivers in the speakers are knackered.

try going into the audio properties and make sure it is just set on regular stereo.. It sounds like an enhancement is on like Hall or something similar..
