Hi people,

My mother is using a laptop with windows vista on it and i am using a pc with xp home !

Question?
Can i remotely connect to her laptop using what we have and without paying for some program to do it? if so how do i do it?

I don't think you can do it with home because RD is only on XP Pro.

You can however install a VNC server on her laptop and a client on your pc and connect that way.

I will warn you though, KEEP UP WITH NEW VERSIONS AND UPDATES of the VNC software incase of vulnerability

Thanks Lebowski,

ok sorry if i sound thick im not the best computer wizz
Managed to download the program to her laptop.
however what is a client ,where can i get one and once i have it how do i then successfully connect to her?

When you installed it you had the option of 'VNC server' and 'VNC viewer' the vnc server is what needs to run on your mothers laptop and you need to run the viewer on your desktop.

A little note about security, make sure you set a decent password in the vnc viewer AND don't use the standard port (5900 I believe) set it to something different.

Also mate, as you can imagine we get a bit busy, people are normally working with ongoing problems, so the response may appear a little slow now and then, I assure ya, it's not just me
